We are seeking a highly motivated International Trade Compliance Associate Director to join the International Trade Compliance Team. Specifically, the International Trade Compliance Associate Director will be responsible for managing, developing and communicating the international trade compliance program for our organization.

This position will report directly to the Senior Director, Legal Affairs, and will be based in Charlotte, N.C.


  • Provide guidance, training and support as a subject matter expert for export-related issues and ensure compliance with all rules and regulations.

  • Manage ITC team of customs and export specialists.
  • Ability to work as a member of cross functional team and effectively communicate with other ITC professionals and business leadership.
  • Review, develop and maintain policies and procedures to implement international trade requirements for import and export compliance.
  • Assist with ITC assessment process and drive corrective actions to closure with cross-functional team.
  • Monitor government and industry developments (e.g. security, customs compliance, etc.), and make recommendations to management regarding modifications to business best practices.
  • Ensure proper recordkeeping requirements are fully met.
  • Manage export authorization process and lead team implementation of licensing processes and policies.
  • Manage third-party consultants, customs brokers, freight forwarders and other service providers by setting performance expectations; monitoring and tracking current performance; and developing documented procedures and escalation plans to ensure compliance and accurate reporting.
  • Identify and implement any duty savings opportunities, including duty drawback.
  • Support Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program by providing input on the annual C-TPAT risk assessment and portal submission.
  • Investigate and timely prepare responses to Customs Requests for Information, Notices of Action, Protests, and other government requests.
  • Manage the classification process and the preparation and utilization of Special Tariff Programs (e.g., NAFTA, GSP, Chapter 98, drawback, etc.). Oversee maintenance of import classification database.
  • Generate reports and metrics pertaining to elements of the import process using both ITRAC and ACE data portal.
  • Manage customs compliance programs such as Importer Self-Assessment (ISA) by establishing and maintaining an effective auditing and surveillance program of import activities across our organization and subsidiaries.
  • Develop and deliver training on import requirements and procedures.
  • Ensure Customs Bonds and Powers of Attorney are accurately and timely filed and maintained. 



  • 7-10+ years of experience working in international trade compliance, prior experience working at a large importer/exporter is preferred and proven track record for enhancing international trade compliance programs.
  • Excellent project/program management and organizational skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Extensive working knowledge of the ITAR, EAR, OFAC and other sanction programs, and antiboycott regulations.
  • Extensive working knowledge of the US Harmonized Tariff Schedule & 19 CFR, NAFTA and other trade preference programs, Assists and other Valuation issues, Antidumping and Countervailing duties, and Importer Security Filing.
  • Previous experience with ISA and C-TPAT preferred.
  • Must be a team player with multi-tasking abilities and work effectively on multiple time sensitive projects.
  • Ability to effectively prepare analytical written and oral communications appropriate for multiple audiences and levels within the organization.
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver against competing priorities.
  • Proficient at approaching problems/risks/issues with professionalism, confidence and decisiveness.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects that require collaboration across functional areas.
  • Ability to escalate issues appropriately and follow to resolution with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential matters and exercise sound discretion and judgment


  • Bachelors' Degree required
  • U.S. Customs Broker license (preferred)
